Craiova has an ancient history and a unique atmosphere. The Pels, an ancient Geto-Dacian tribe with its center at Pelendava used to inhabit these lands in the 4th century BC, while the citadel was attested for the first time in a 3rd-century map.
In the middle ages, the town used to be an important commercial and military hub. Before becoming Michael the Brave, he used to be the governor of Craiova. In his time, the city saw an unprecedented growth. Starting with the 19th century, Craiova meets with a prominent industrial boom. Culturally, the town is home to a series of churches, palaces and monuments worth visiting.
In August 2015, Craiova is one of the destinations we suggest you put on the map. That’s because it will be the stage of at least two events worth all our attention.
During the 1st and 2nd of August, you are invited to Mihai Viteazul Square to attend the Bergenbier Days of Friendship. Come with your friends (or make new friends) at a pint of beer and a vivid concert. Among those who will come on stage: Vita de Vie, Zob, Suie Paparude, Red Fiction, Zdob si Zdub, R.O.A., The Kryptonite Sparks, E.M.I.L. and other well-known artists.
If you find yourself in Craiova towards the end of August, between August 25th and September 1st, come out for a walk among puppets at the second edition of the PUPPETS OCCUPY STREET, an event organized by the Children’s Theatre Colibri in Craiova. Color and fun will reign!
