We must admit it: no summer is truly complete without at least a few days spent in the gentle breeze by the sea shore. An exotic holiday is a dream for most of us, but at the same time there are cultural options to explore in the region for those who are not very interested in activities involving lying in the sun and the salty sea water. You’ve probably already guessed that today we are going to talk about Dobrogea, more than a seaside destination.
If you are a history lover, it is worth taking a day off to visit Histria Citadel, the oldest town to be attested in a document in our country. Histria was founded in the 7th century BC by the Greeks in Milet and was continuously inhabited since the 7th century AD, when it was plundered by the Avars. Diggings began in 1914 and are ongoing. Up to now, the most spectacular artifacts to have been discovered are the Roman temples and the thermae.
If the sun is burning on the sky, you can take a moment to enjoy the fresh air in Babadag Forest, a corner of heaven where you can find wild orchids and hundreds of protected species.
Also, if you are fascinated by nature and its curiosities, in Agigea you can visit the Marine dune plants Reservation, unique on the European continent. It harbours almost 30 turtles that inhabit the dunes of the old gulf in a fascinating landscape, full of rare plants.
