The Cuza Palace in Ruginoasa

The Cuza Palace in Ruginoasa

The sunshine and the promise of spring entice us more and more to dream of holidays and trips, so today we suggest a trip to Iasi, where it is worth visiting The Cuza Palace in Ruginoasa.

A series of bold revolutions are linked to the strong personality of Alexandru Ioan Cuza. They helped modernize and raise the prestige of Romania. Unfortunately, over 150 years after the Union on January 24th 1859, it seems too little is being said about this remarkable and discrete personality.

The Palace in Ruginoasa, along with the surrounding domains, were purchased through an action by the ruler of the Romanian Principalities, Alexandru Ioan Cuza, in 1862. Although he did not spend much time here, he did enjoy moments of quiet and happiness on these domains and had planned to restore the entire castle. His wife, Madam Elena, lives in Ruginoasa longer and was in charge with redecorating, furbishing and restoring the place.

Today, the Palace in Ruginoasa is open as a museum dedicated to the memory of Cuza, but before it became his’, it was built at the beginning of the 19th century by the Sturdza family.

At the museum/ palace Cuza in Ruginoasa, you can visit the gardens (where you can also admire the carriage of the ruler), but also the fascinating interior of the residence. Walking through the elegant, romantically decorated rooms, you will discover countless pieces that will bring to life the lifestyle and color of those long-faded times.

“The Shepherd” by N. Grigorescu is exhibited in the Palace’s salon, while the family library is the place where you can find the volumes that filled the quiet hours of Cuza.

We advise you to visit the beautiful Palace in Ruginoasa, along with other tourist attractions in Moldova. You can always book with Car rental Iasi and drive through the city and its surroundings.
