Have you realized?
It is still winter!Which means it is still time to visit the mountains and enjoy a few days of amazing fun in the snow.
This time we will talk about a small mountain resort situated on Prahova Valley, at the foothills of the Bucegi and Baiului Mountains. During the winter season, the resort is greatly appreciated due to its steep slopes, although during spring and summer, it is also an ideal destination for hiking or just chilling out in the mountain air.
Before the it was turned into a mountain resort or even a city, there was just an inn here: Hanul Caciula Mare (The “Big Hat” Inn), which was arsoned several times by the turks between 1720 and 1725, but was always rebuilt. For a long time, it was the only building in the entire area. Originally built from wood, it did not survive up to date, and now on the place where the inn once stood, there is a church, the Orthodox Church.
The first people to settle in the area were shepards; the legendary first inhabitant was Gheroge Zangor. In 1884, Azuga, Predeal, Busteni and Poiana Tapului were all united in the Predeal Common.
The development of the resort was slow and gradual, but eventually happened both from the touristic point of view, as well as from the perspective of the industry. Many factories were established in Busteni, serving various purposes: glass, cheese, cement, chalk, salamy, timber, champagne.
Nevertheless, Azuga is best known for the beer factory, which was built between 1898-1900, and which has been functioning ever since.
As tourist attractions, Sorica Slope is the biggest in Azuga and, thanks to investments the city has benefited from lately, it has become one of the most important places where winter sports can be practiced.
Sorica Slope has a length of 2100 m and a medium difficulty, with a level difference if 561 m.
Cazacu Slope measures 1920 m in length, has a level difference of 530 m; it has two variants: one measuring 400 m in length, and a belt of 715 m; both are of average difficulty.
Sorica South Slope has a total length of 770 m and a low difficulty.
Stana Slope measures 910 m and is also for beginners.
