A ferry-boat is a boat or ship (a merchant vessel) used to carry (or ferry) primarily passengers, and sometimes vehicles and cargo as well, across a body of water.
Usually we see “ferry boats”, those real floating cities with duty-free shops and modern restaurants with the Western Europe and World, but, the new ferry-boat line Constanta – Batumi – Ilyichevsk intends to deconstruct this prejudgment.
Romcargo Maritim & UKRFerry open a new ferry-boat line meant to unify Romania, Georgia and Ucraina. The first trip on the route Constanta (Romania) – Batumi (Georgia) – Ilyichevsk (Ucraina) is being done with „Greifswald” boat. The opening event has taken place on thursday, 16th of October 2014. Among the people present to the event we can name Mr. Ioan Rus, Minister of Transportation along with the representatives of the government from Ucraina and Georgia: Deputy Minister of Infrastructure in Ukraine, Oksana Reiter and Natia Mikeladze from the Minister of Economy from Georgia.
On daily base, cargo ships depart from Constanta Port. They transport merchandise toards the far places of the world, unifying the Orient and the Occident. Being both a sea and a fluvial port, Constanta is one of the most important ports of the world. In reality, the facilities provided by the Constanta port allow any kind of ship to dock here. The transportation on the water is quite low-cost and it is a viable alternative to the congested European transport or the high-cost air transport. Especially for the merchandise, the boats represent a good option, being able to transport big cargos.
Regarding the sea transportation of people, besides the new ferry-boat line Constanta – Batumi – Ilyichevsk, there are cruise ships sailing from Constanta on the Black Sea. There are also ferry-boat lines that link Romania of the Eastern part of the World.
The ship used to inaugurate the new ferry-boat line, Greifswald, is a modern boat of the ro-ro/passenger/ferry-boat class. Built in 1988, it measures over 190 m in length and almost 30 m wide and is register under the flag of Panama. The boat can transport 50 wagons and 50 trucks along with 150 passengers.
But, in Constanta, the basic transportation remains the road one. This is the reason for which the rent a car services remain a very popular option among locals and tourists.
