We like to travel and even when the weather is cold outside, we still spend time planning our vacations and thinking about the happy warm days of holiday. But where are we going next? Why visit Piatra Neamt? Actually, we’ve come up with a few reasons.
Piatra Neamt boasts with a series of unique museums. The Cucuteni Ceramics, for instance, is a symbol of human inhabitation on the land between the Carpathians, the Danube and the Black Sea. The beautiful pots found towards the end of the 19th century attest to the creativity of a European civilization 7 millennia old. In Piatra Neamt, it is worth stopping by the Cucuteni Neolithic Art Museum. Some 300 artifacts can be admired for a symbolic price of 2 lei.
Thoroughly underrated underrated in the eyes of modern literary critique, Romanian writer Calistrat Hogas is commemorated at the “Calistrat Hogas” Memorial Museum, where you can admire furniture, manuscripts and documents that once belonged to the family. The price is also only 2 lei.
If old history is what you love, you should also visit two referential citadels. The Royal Court and Church are found in the central square of town and dates from the 15th century. The church was erected at the end of the century in the traditional Moldavian architectural style. There are a few walls left of the Royal Court, but the cellars host impressive museum exhibits.
And should we want to delve even deeper into the past, we must move 4 km away south-west from the city and see the ruins of Petrodava citadel in Batca Doamnei. Dating back to the Cucuteni period, the citadel was subsequently inhabited by the Dacians. Today, the monument is accessible for those passionate about archeology.
For a moment of spirituality, at the foot of the mountain, stop by the village of Varatec, at the Varatec Monastery. It is the biggest nuns monastery in the country. 500 nuns live in this haven established in 1785.
To visit all these tourist attractions, we invite you to book a Piatra Neamt rental car.
