The most beautiful roads in Romania

Driving is one of life’s greatest pleasures for all experienced drivers. Many are those who speak of an almost therapeutic quality of finding yourself in front of the wheel. The most beautiful roads in Romania might already be common knowledge to many of you, but it is worth remembering them.

Most of us have heard of the famous and exciting paths Transfagarasan and Transalpina. Snaking for over 150 km in spectacular coils, tunnels and bridges, the Transfagarasan crosses a high region, scattered with dozens of tourist attractions.

The Transalpina, on the other hand, is even higher, being in fact the highest road in the country at Urdele (2145 meters). Those who love nature will be delighted by the most beautiful landscapes on the “Royal Road”, as it has often been called.

Cheile Bicazului is an exciting area, spectacular and even dangerous, a driveway carved into the rock, over the precipice. It links Transylvania to Moldova and counts the Red Lake (Lacul Rosu) among its most prominent attractions.

The road between Oravita, Cazanele Dunarii and Drobeta Turnu Severin on DN 57 presents a side to Romania that reminds one more of Scandinavia than Central-Eastern Europe. The Danube emerges along the path, majestic and calm. The whole route takes between 3 and 6 hours to cross, depending on traffic and speed. The level of difficulty is low for the most part, except for the coils around Oravita.

But more common roads are also equally beautiful. It is the case with Prahova County and its Sinaia. The so-called “Transbucegi” has spectacular sites to show, with green meadows and high mountains.

To admire the general splendor and drive safely and comfortably, you only need one essential thing: a quality car. If you don’t already have one or if you wish a change, you can book with Rent a car without deposit.
