Fly Romania, the new Low Cost airway company

Fly Romania

Fly Romania, a new airway company, will offer internal and international flights from May 15 2014 from Bucharest, Tulcea and Timisoara. The great news is the manager of the company,  Ovidiu Tender, assures us the prices of these services will in fact be lower than traveling by car.

According to Mediafax, businessman Ovidiu Tender has declared, “We do not wish to steal Tarom’s customers, we plan to provide competition for the auto industry, because these flights are cheaper than cars”.

The estimated price of a Bucharest -Timisoara trip will amount to 70 Euro, says Catalin Butu, CEO of Ten Airways, group Fly Romania has recently also become part of.

There will be flights on the route Bucharest -Timisoara flying every day, except on Saturdays, and there will be flights between Tulcea and Bucharest 3 times a week. For the moment, the international destinations on offer are Italy, Spain and Germany, popular routes for “European commuters” – Romanians who live and work abroad in one of these countries.

From Bucharest, there will be flights to Verona, Barcelona and Frankfurt (3 flights per week). From Tulcea, planes will fly towards Bergamo twice a week and once a week to Frankfurt, while from Timisoara, there will be 3 flights to Verona.

For national transport, the quotes will be fixed, 49,9 Euro/flight for Bucharest – Tulcea and 69.9 Euro/flight between Bucharest and Timisoara. For international flights, the prices are just as attractive, starting from 29.9 Euro/flight. In comparison to other low cost flight companies operating in Romania at present, that charge additionally for luggage, the good news is Fly Romania includes a baggage of maximum 20 kg and and a handbag of maximum 7 kg in the quoted price.

This alternative to cars sounds tempting, but until flight replaces driving, personal or rental cars remain the main solution.

It seems the current airline companies are expecting competition. However, the success of the new enterprise on the Romanian market remains to be seen.
