Christmas is almost here and our country is well-known for being one of the most traditionalist – and enthusiastic – when it comes to holidays. How did Romanian cities prepare for Christmas? The image of a city is given by its attention to detail and Christmas decorations are an ideal opportunity to show off in the local spirit.
So, let’s see how much the Romanian local administrations have invested in both budget and aesthetic spirit. Lights, fir trees and the Nativity Scene are among the main elements, but the favorite themes this year are the same as ever.
Some cities have invested a great deal in Christmas – such as the Botosani Administration which, totally ignoring the crisis, has invested 250.000 lei in lights and Christmas decorations. Nevertheless, Botosani has donned much the same decorations as last year. Suceava, gravely affected by the economic crisis, dons the same decorations as last year.
On the other hand, Cluj Napoca displays a genuine enthusiasm towards Christmas. There are 60 places in Cluj that were decorated with 25 Christmas-trees, 20 kilometers of lights, light curtains measuring 650 sq km and 135 figurines. The total investment approaches 900.000 lei, but the locals and tourists alike are being treated to a fairy-tale display of sheer beauty.
In Ploiesti, 420.000 euro were destined to the decoration of the town – less than last year. Though the amount is impressive, the majority of decorations used (in their blue tone) remind of last year’s design, while the people in Ploiesti feel their city lacks the truly festive air of the past. Nevertheless, the center looks great, with garlands and tinsel and colorful lights decorating the trees in front of the City Hall.
A spectacular city, Brasov is preparing for celebration in Piata Sfatului (among other places). The fact is that this metamorphosis of this Transylvania symbol cost over 50.000 euro. You can travel by car to whatever holiday destination this winter and enjoy a few unforgettable days of celebration!
