Bicaz Gorges, a perfect weekend trip

Bicaz Gorges, a perfect weekend trip

Where do we travel to next? We know this is exactly what you are asking yourselves every time you plan an outing, so today we have thought of suggesting Bicaz Gorges, a perfect weekend trip.

Between the counties Neamt and Harghita, in the midst of the Hasmas Mountains, there is a particularly picturesque region: the Bicaz Gorges, which were formed under the influence of the Bicaz River, linking Transylvania and Moldova. The gorges are part of the Cheile Bicazului – Hasmas National Reservation. Far away from the pollution of the town, from the hum of the streets and the banal of everyday life, the Bicaz Gorges are the place to go if you want to enjoy a perfect family outing or a trip with your friends.

Among the main tourist attractions, it is worth mentioning Lacu Rosu (both the river and the resort), famous for its thermal waters, Poiana Alba (the White Meadow) in mount Hasmasu Mare, the point from which any mountain path can be followed, the observation point  Suhardul Mic and the Ghilcos Massive.

As we already mentioned, the Bicaz Gorges offer a series of spectacular sights, dominated by dramatic round limestone peaks out of which the walls of the gorges detach in deep precipices. Beyond the “large gorges” carved by Bicaz River, its affluents have also created independent smaller gorges: Laposului, Sugaului, Bicajelului and Bicajelului. Apart from them, there are cascades, marmites and other elements that increase the general splendor of the place.

The rocks here are particularly dramatic as well, varying from limestone needles to rocky cliffs and caves.

In the National Park, there are fossils from the Mesozoic era, as well as a spectacular flora that counts natural monuments like the edelweiss or sweet pea.

Being a mountainous region, it is best crossed if you have a car available, preferably a 4×4. If you don’t, don’t worry: you can book with rent a car Romania.
