Once upon a time, it was but a dream – bird-men and dreams of flight. Today, flying has become something almost mundane, so much so that we talk of different flight standards and various companies that transport thousands of people every week.

Flying safe in 2015 with the safest low cost airline companies should be every traveler’s concern. So what are the safest low cost airline companies in the world?

According Mediafax (citing sources from CNN, the site AirlineRatings.com has established a classification of the safest airlines, compiling official data from various official sources: the audits of aviation bodies, industry associations and the balance of the annual number of air accident victims offered by governments.

449 companies were analysed, all of them rated with stars, from one to seven. 149 of them hold the maximum number of stars: seven. According to the ranking, a brand loses one star for every mortal accident (resulting in victims among the passengers or the onboard staff).

In 2015, the safest low cost airline companies in the world are, according to AirlineRatings.com: Aer Lingus (Ireland), Alaska Airlines (USA), Icelandair (Iceland), Jetblue (USA), Jetstar (Australia), Kulula.com (South Africa), Monarch Airlines (Great Britain), Thomas Cook (Great Britain), TUIfly (Germany) si WestJet (Canada).

At the other end, according to the same sources, the least safe airline companies today are: Tara Air, Nepal Airlines, Scat Airlines Kazakhstan and Kam Air Afghanistan. The four companies only boast one star and are restricted from flying in Europe.

2014 was a year of records: 3.3 billion passengers have flown on 27 million flights and also, last year was reportedly the safest year in the last 80 years, with “only” 111 crashes.

Nevertheless, if the idea of flying still gives you the shivers, you can still rejoice in knowing you have the option of renting a car and traveling inside Romania at least.
