The Dragos Voda Bison Natural Reservation is located on the Eastern side of the Stanisoarei Mountains in Neamt County. The spot has become an importat tourist attraction thanks to the school camps and excursions organized here.
Initially intended as a natural park in 1999, the National Huntsmen Park Neamt (Parcul Natural Vanatori Neamt) encompasses Padurea de Argint (The Silver Forest) and Codrii de Arama (The Copper Woods), totaling 30.818 hectares.
Throughout the entire surface of the park – 26.300 hectares of which are forest – there are numerous natural, cultural and historic treasures, such as endangered species like the brown bear, the bison, the Carpathian stag, the fallow deer and also birds, such as the mountain hen, the pheasant and many others.
The history of bisons in the park is not quite rich in numbers and rich in unpleasant events, but despite the odds, today there are 7 samples of bisons here, constituting the main attraction of the place as well. It is worth mentioning that the reservation has been provided with special spaces that replicate the natural living conditions of the animals in order to ensure the best comfort and life quality of the inhabitants.
These 7 bisons are in captivity, but around the entire park, there are around 21 more who are free. According to the reproduction of the bisons, some individuals are set free, the aim being to repopulate the surrounding forests with bisons.
For those of you who are interested in visiting the place, know that the place will overwhelm you with a sense of total freedom, as you wander the quiet roads of the National Hunters Park in Neamt. All around you, as far as the eye can reach, there are woods, lanes and hills that stretch endlessly. But don’t get distracted by the landscape! Bear in mind that a few steps away, there are other objectives to visit, such as the Neamt Citadel, the Ion Creanga Memorial House in Humulesti, Oglinzi and Baltatesti resorts and numerous Moldavian monasteries.
