A symbol of Moldova and Romania, an economic and cultural center and an unforgettable tourist destination, Iasi is the object of our discussion today. The most beautiful museums in Iasi must be marked on the list of places to visit during a cultural trip.
The Palace of Culture in Iasi (Palatul Culturii) is an emblem of the town. The edifice, built in the Romantic style, actually hosts four museums: The Art Museum, the History Museum, the Ethnography Museum of Moldova, the Museum of Science and Technology “Stefan Procopiu” and also the Centre of Preservation of Natural Resources. The building was constructed between 1906 and 1925 over the ruins of medieval residences mentioned in the documents of the XVth century. At present, the Palace is undergoing a process of restoration, but visitors are invited to see the other attractions of the museum complex.
Located in the Copou Garden, the Mihai Eminescu Museum is made up of three rooms: the Hall of Destiny (impressing with a mosaic floor representing the zodiac), the Hall of Art and, upstairs, the Hall of Friendship. Of course, the museum contains an impressive collection of books (mainly the work of Eminescu in Romanian and in translation). There is another interesting collection of photos, which represent graphically the life of the national poet. Painting, sculpture, graphics, documents and books introduce us into the wonderful world of Mihai Eminescu.
Inaugurated on April 15th 1918, Ion Creanga’s “Bojdeuca” (The Cottage) in Iasi was the first memorial literary museum in Romania. The pittoresque house houses a library, an exposition of documents that record the life of the great Moldavian writer, as well as an outdoors amphitheatre (built between 1984 and 1989). Creanga found shelter in this small house after he was unfrocked in 1872. Here, in his little cottage, he wrote “Amintiri din copilarie” and also here, Creanga had a famous tenant between the summer and autumn of 1876: Mihai Eminescu.
