The secrets of Bucegi, the Hole in Heaven

A mysterious place, surrealistically beautiful, which gave birth to countless legends and superstitions, these old mountains remain a source of endless fascination for us all. For today, we thought we’d remember The secrets of Bucegi, the Hole in Heaven (Gaura din Rai).

There are countless stories about Bucegi Mountains, with their mysterious Sphynx (created by natural phenomena or by man’s hand… or maybe by an unseen hand?), with its hidden tunnels (Masonic secret or mere speculation?) and with its strange, unexplainable natural phenomena. There is still more to be said.

Of all the weird, fascinating places in the Bucegi, the Hole in Heaven occupies a top rank. As specialists and the few “chosen ones” who know about it have not wished to share the exact location with the world, many wonder if the Hole in Heaven (Gaura din Rai) really exists.

Nevertheless, popular legends have it that these amazing, benignant, ancestral and sacred “hole” between the sky and the earth really exists, being a high meadow in an enchanted soil. In the Bucegi Mountains, apparently this surreal place does exist close to the Ialomicioara Cave. Stretching over an area of around 1 sq km, the place has a different magnetism. This magnetic anomaly has spectacular healing effects on the human body and mind. Apparently this is a place where the organism just doesn’t get tired, but refuels chemo-physically as if by wonder. The therapeutic properties of the place, reluctantly confirmed by researchers, show that not always are popular beliefs pure fantasy.

Back to the world of reason, the reasons for this magnetic anomaly are obscure. It is speculated that the reflections of the Earth crust and various tectonic ruptures are, at least partially, responsible for the atypical character of the location.

It appears that the ancient Dacians believed Zamolxis, their god, lived here. Conspiracy theories link Bucegi to the activity of secret societies, who are rumored to perform mystical rituals here. But for the curious sort, what we recommend is to rent a car and, maybe, discover the secrets of the Bucegi Mountains by yourselves.
