The secrets of Bucegi, the Sphinx of Bucegi

The secrets of Bucegi, the Sphinx of Bucegi

There are amazing miracles happening in Romania that deserve our undivided attention, so today we are going to talk about one of The secrets of Bucegi, the Sphynx of Bucegi. The Bucegi Mountains are perhaps the strangest region in the country, the origin of countless flabbergasting theories and bizarre legends passed on from generation to generation.

One thing is certain: the Bucegi Mountains, this segment of the Meridional Carpathians, represents a totally unique place, with an equally unique atmosphere, which becomes obvious as you climb higher and higher, ready to conquer its spectacular peaks. From up above, you can gaze into the stone eyes of the Sphinx and perhaps you will hear the quiet of this ancestral place. Does it sound like an epiphany?

At an altitude of 2.216 m, there is a human-shaped megalit measuring 8 m in height. Geologists say it was formed through a natural process of erosion, but mystics claim it was carved by extraterrestrials. This is the Sphinx of Bucegi, but no matter how mysterious it may be, with its human face carved in rock, the legends that spread around what is apparently above it, deep in the heart of the mountain, are ever more surprising.

Supporters of the conspiracy theory (and not only) claim that under the Sphinx, carved deep in Bucegi mountain, there is a network of tunnels. There is a quite known story that says that, in 2003, the Pentagon discovered on satellite an area in Bucegi that presented a magnetic anomaly, so the Romanian and American Secret Services searched and discovered “the tunnel of time”, which apparently leads to the Hall of Records. These records were supposedly left by a vastly superior civilization and lead to three tunnels which in turn lead to the center of the earth. Classified information, of course.

How much of this is speculation (or conspiracy) and how much is truth is hard to say. But it may be interesting to remark as well that November 28th is the (virtually unknown) day of the Bucegi Mountains, a date when the few experts (or the few “chosen ones”) gather in front of the Sphinx to admire the sunset embracing the sculpture in a pyramid of mystical light. In 2013, around 300 people came here to enjoy a unique phenomenon and to dance a typical “hora”. This year, you can join them as well!
