A destination with… bouquet, The Wine Road

Not much planning is needed when it comes to organizing an excursion or a weekend circuit. Today we will try to prove this by talking about A destination with… bouquet, The Wine Road.

The notion of a tourist circuit made up of several roads that cross different viticultural areas seems rather outlandish. It was, in fact, devised and implemented by Mr. Dan Matei Agathon, the current ex- Tourism Minister, in the 2000s. The EU funds were accessed for this picturesque road, but since politics here is… quite burlesque, actually, the road had to undergo massive repair shortly after the inauguration, because the quality of the actual work was questionable. This matters less now, what counts is that the circuit starts in western Buzau and crosses Prahova from east to west.

The road starts in Buzau, in Ciuta, passes through DN10 all the way to Ciolanu Monastery, passes by a sculpture camp in Magura, then we get to breathe the fresh air in Breaza and Sarata-Monteoru. Having already reached Prahova, the Wine Road stretches windingly along a distance of almost 60 km, from Mizil, through Tohani, Ceptura, the Urlati Wineries, the vineyards in Valea Calugareasca, Bucov, Boldesti, Plopeni, all the way to Filipestii de Padure.

Along the way, you can visit the domains and the wineries to taste the most diverse and select wines in the local production. To give a few examples, Tohani and Dealu Mare domains, the Budureasca, Galewood or Rovit Valea Calugareasca wineries can be visited in Prahova county. Prestigious wine brands, such as Sange de Taur, Dracula, Budureasca and Vinul Voievodului are produced here and they have been awarded prizes and medals for their quality and bouquet.

Of course, beverages are not the only attraction, even if we refer here to the Wine Road. Among the tourist destinations you will come across along the way, we can remind Cantacuzino Palace, Little Trianon Palace, Zamfira Monastery and the St. Mary Hermitage, the Bellu House and many dorms and hotels where you can stay.

You will need a car for this circuit, so Ploiesti car hire can supply one.
