Surprises and expectations with the Oscar Awards 2015 Nominations

One month before the 87th Gala of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), the month of January has brought exciting news in the world of film. January 2015 began in full force, with the Golden Globes, where the winning motion pictures were “The Grand Budapest Hotel” by Wes Anderson for comedy/ musical and “Boyhood” de Richard Linklater for drama.

Recent news have been even more important, bringing surprises and expectations with the Oscar Awards 2015 Nominations. The big night when the trophies are going to be awarded is February 22nd. Apparently actor Neil Patrick will be the host this year.

And as it is often said in Hollywood, here are the nominations:

For best movie, the nominees are The Theory of Everything”, “The Imitation Game”, “American Sniper”, “Birdman (or The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)”, “Selma”, “Whiplash” and the winners of the Golden Globes this year, “The Grand Budapest Hotel” and “Boyhood”.

Let’s see who were the most convincing actors in a leading role. For male actors, either Steve Carell (for “Foxcatcher”), Michael Keaton (“Birdman”), Eddie Redmayne (who played Stephen Hawking in “The Theory of Everything”), Benedict Cumberbatch (acting as the brilliant programmer Alan Turner, in the film “The Imitation Game”), or Bradley Cooper (“American Sniper”) could go home with an Oscar.

The most popular actresses this year are Rosamund Pike (“Gone Girl”), Reese Witherspoon (“Wild”), Felicity Jones (“The Theory of Everything”), Julianne Moore (“Still Alice”) and Marion Cotillard (for her part in “Two Days, One Night”).

For supporting role, the competitors are Robert Duvall, Mark Ruffalo, Ethan Hawke, J.K. Simmons and the versatile Edward Norton. The actresses that are fighting for the same award are Patricia Arquette, Laura Dern, Emma Stone, Meryl Streep and the British Keira Knightley.

The nominees for the best animation movie are: How to Train Your Dragon 2”, “The Tale of the Princess Kaguya”, “The Boxtrolls”, “Big Hero 6” and “Song of the Sea”. For soundtrack, the best composers are Hans Zimmer, Gary Yershon, Johann Johannsson and Alexandre Desplat (who received two nominations, both for “The Imitation Game”, and for “The Grand Budapest Hotel”).

All that’s left is to wait and see.
