In search of the rural charm… in the Capital City

Last weekend, Europe celebrated culture with a festival that has become exceedingly popular during the past few years: The European Museums Night. We actually talked about this event before and on Saturday, May 16th 2015, the event finally took place, to the delight of all those who set out in search of the rural charm… in the Capital City.

Bucharest is not generally the most convenient destination in the country, but we must admit lots of events take place here and there are plenty museums and other cultural sites to see. Of the more than 20 museums which could be visited in Bucharest for the Museums Night, many chose Antipa Museum and the History Museum. Unfortunately, these locations were so sought out that few had the luck to defeat the queues and get to set foot inside the museum.

There was definitely less crowd at the Village Museum and the Romanian Peasant’s Museum and those who chose these two venues had nothing to regret, because the organization was excellent and the exhibits reenacted a fairytale, timeless universe of the Romanian village inhabited by the Romanian peasant. Much is said on the subject, yet little is known.

The Village Museum “Dimitrie Gusti” organized a successful event with music and fun. On the shore of Herastrau lake, an entire village stretches, a beautiful outdoors museum, where you can admire dozens of traditional houses from various regions and centuries (the majority are 19th and 20th-century constructions). There are also many artifacts from the 17th century on. For instance: ovens, barns, mills, fountains and an amusing wooden carousel. The Romanian village would be incomplete without churches, so they are also represented.

Last Saturday, aside from visiting the improvised village, people had the chance to enjoy a meal at the restaurant there and admire many expositions by Romanian artisans. The Museum also hosted the Thai Festival – where there was dance and music and Thai stories.

With Ploiesti car hire, you can visit both the capital city and Prahova Valley and other beautiful destinations in the southern region of the country.
